Shelley Community Association win Big Society Award!

They went out and about with a camera to record reactions.

 

 

 

 

 

The Over 60s was meeting in the village hall with a group of Healthy Walkers. There were members from both churches and other groups including the Community Association.

 

 

 

 

 

The Over 60s is our longest running group in the hall – it started in 1978 when the hall became our village hall.

 

 

 

 

 

One of the three people standing is Fred Huddle – the oldest member – who is 99 tomorrow! He recently formed an indoor bowling championship!!!

 

 

 

 

 

The man selling raffle tickets is John Cook, who worked for Remploy for over 20 years. He was in our local paper recently for selling what could be a world record of raffle tickets at village events over many years!

 

 

 

 

 

The ladies behind the cakes work in one of our two successful Cafes – which won Yorkshire TV Tea shop of the region a couple of years back. It also sells home-made ice-cream which is very popular as it is a working dairy farm

 

 

 

 

 

The lady hairdresser runs her own small business and organises lots of charity fund-raising in her shop for the local hospice, and organises community events such as the Gala and New Years Eve Disco.

 

 

 

 

 

The mini-bus runs every week collecting local Over 60s from other villages.

 

 

 

 

 

The Post Office operates for three sessions a week in the Village Hall – timing one of them for the Over 60s.
