Employment

The Pay and Employment Rights Service (PERS) is a company and charity established to promote good practice in employment. Starting in 1986 as the Yorkshire Low Pay Unit it now supports and trains employers across Yorkshire in meeting their legal and ethical responsibilities, advises employees who have questions or problems about their employment, and works to improve employment policies and procedures through research, campaigning, and lobbying.

Finance

The West Yorkshire Community Accounting Service known as WYCAS aims to support charities, voluntary organisations, community groups and social enterprises with managing their finances more effectively and efficiently.

Fundraising

Every year The Big Lottery Fund gives out millions of pounds from the National Lottery to good causes. Its money goes to community groups and to projects that improve health, education and the environment

fit4funding is nationally recognised as a quality provider of training on all aspects of fundraising and commissioning involving Third Sector organisations. It is the link between national and local in funding advice and works across the UK, although its main focus is in West Yorkshire.

Kirklees Grantmakers Alliance is a not-for-profit membership organisation that brings business and community together by facilitating socially responsible endeavours across the District.  Our members give their professional time, expertise and other valuable resources on a pro-bono basis to support local projects and initiatives – they are the Grantmakers!.

Community Foundation for Calderdale manages dozens of funds of various sizes. From these funds, grants are distributed to support the critical work that voluntary, community and charitable organisations are doing in and around Calderdale.

Governance

The Charity Commission registers and regulates charities in England and Wales. It offers them advice and provide a wide range of services and guidance to help them run as effectively as possible. It also keeps the online Register of Charities, which provides information about each of the thousands of registered charities in England and Wales.

Community Recycling Network is  involved in various programmes and projects all dedicated to providing support and representation to the community waste sector.

East Peak Innovation Partnership (EPIP) is delivering a community-led social and economic rural development programme across rural communities in North Sheffield, West Barnsley, Denby Dale and Kirkburton, and is endorsed by and attracts funding from the European Union and UK Government.

Growing Newsome aims to help more people in our community to grow their own local food. It wants Newsome residents to have the skills, confidence, knowledge, land, resources and support that they need to be able to grow their own food.

Marsden & Slaithwaite Transitional Towns (MASTT) is a community-led group taking proactive steps to deal with the twin threats of Peak Oil and Climate Change.

Helping Yourself to Better Health with NHS Kirklees – Provides free local information & support for people with long term conditions

Kirklees LINk (Local Involvement Network) gives you the opportunity to influence local health and social care services.  It has been set up by Parliament and given statutory powers to make sure that local people get the health and social care services they need.  Your local LINk want to hear about your experiences of health and social care services and you ideas for improving change.

Local Government

Kirklees Council everything you will ever need to know about Kirklees, all under one roof.

The Kirklees Partnership is the Local Strategic Partnership for Kirklees. It brings together public sector agencies, voluntary and community groups and local businesses to discuss important issues about the Kirklees area and agree on ways forward.

Local VCS Organisations

The Disabled People’s Electronic Village Hall (DP-EVH) is an IT training organisation delivering learning to disabled and disadvantaged adults throughout West Yorkshire.

Electroville, if you need technical support from people who understand the voluntary sector Electroville is one place to go. It has been supporting community and voluntary organisations for over 6 years and understands how to get the most from computer systems on a tight budget. It provides a whole range of services from PCs to printers and networks and beyond.

Mediation Yorkshire’s core activity is the provision of a neighbour dispute resolution service in Kirklees and Wakefield. Other services include workplace mediation, peer mediation and working with familes in conflict. In addition it also provide training in mediation and conflict resolution skills and will undertake consultancy and research projects. Its services are available across Yorkshire.

The National Children’s Centre provides practical services aimed at improving the lives of children, young adults and families most in need as well as working to influence national policy and delivery of services for children.

RISS - connecting rural communities is a BIG Lottery Funded project that is working with rural Voluntary and Community Sector groups to deliver support, guidance and information in rural areas of West Yorkshire

Regional Organisations

West Yorkshire Local Development Agency (WYLDA) is the voluntary and community sector support and development consortium for West Yorkshire.

Umbrella Organisations

navca is the national voice of local support and development organisations in England. It champions and strengthens voluntary and community action by supporting its members in their work with over 160,000 local charities and community groups.

Community Matters champions voluntary and community action at neighbourhood level, as a means of local people taking control of issues in their area and fostering community spirit.

Newsome Ward Timebanking is Huddersfield’s first timebanking project. It was started by people in Newsome with the support of United Response, as a means of giving everybody the opportunity to participate in their community.
