Nominations For ‘The Emleys’ Now Open
Nominations for the inaugural Arqiva Emley Moor Community Award are now open.The award, which launched last year in conjunction with Arqiva, aims to celebrate unsung local heroes by inviting people to recognise their contribution towards the lives of individuals, or the work of charities and community projects. Volunteers Needed – YCC
During half term, 3rd – 7th June, the Yorkshire Children’s Centre are looking for a team of volunteers to help out with decoration/painting of Brian Jackson College, in Heckmondwike. This is the YCC’s inclusion school and it is in real need of a freshen up. All the paint has been kindly donated. individual volunteers or an organisation that can spare a few of their employees for a couple of days would be gladly welcomed. One Community – Mayor’s Charity Of The Year
The Community Foundation for Kirklees, One Community, are proud to announce they have been selected as the Mayor of Kirklees’ chosen charity for the municipal year 2013-14. Established in May 2010, One Community is a non-profit organisation and registered charity created to generate financial support for Kirklees based community activities. Their role is to build and manage a series of charitable funds, to make a lasting contribution across Kirklees, by delivering grants to local groups and the wider community. Room Needed – Dewsbury Breathe Easy
The Dewsbury Breathe Easy Group (part of British Lung Foundation) are a support group in Dewsbury for anyone with respiratory illnesses. They are seeking a room (ideally free) where they can hold a once a month meeting (first Tuesday of the month, between 1-3pm). Changes To PERS Subscription Services
From October 2013 West Yorkshire VCS employment law and HR services will no longer receive lottery funding. Once PERS’ funding ends their usual services (including their employment rights telephone advice line) will still be available, but on the basis of an annual subscription (typically between £255 and £468). For a limited period, organisations can sign up now for a one-off fee of £200 and have full access to the advice line until October 2014. Small Charity Week Competitions
Small Charity Week 2013 will take place from Monday 17th – Friday 22nd June. To help promote the week,and raise awareness, a number of competitions are open to groups and organisations; including Facebook & Twitter challenges (with prizes of £200 for each), as well as a decorating a local landmark task.
